The Library

The Library is one of the most dramatic rooms in the house.  The bookshelves were made from black walnut trees said to come from the property itself.  The beautiful paneling is found on all four walls. You will notice a photo with a small round hole showing the placement of the pearl button used to summon a servant.  There is also a hiding place in the wainscoting below the library shelves (shown) that contained a compartment used to hide liquor during the Prohibition. You can also see the original terra cotta blocks the home is constructed from. The blocks were covered with pebble dash plaster both inside and out.  This room is also remarkably intact with original floors and a unique recessed lighting system in the dentil-type molding.  The plaster was carved out to accommodate light bulbs.
