The Carriage House Cinema

In February 2017, we began the renovation of the Carriage House at Chiles House, now known as the Carriage House Cinema.   The Carriage House had been renovated as part of the extensive Vanessa Byrd renovation.   At that time, the Carriage House was deteriorating.   The clay tile roof was replaced with an asphalt roof and the crumbling walls were shored up.    The large arched carriage house doors were replaced with french doors and windows.   The interior consisted of a cracked concrete floor covered with carpet tiles, open rafters, exposed terra cotta books on two walls  and drywall on the other walls.    When we moved into the house in December 2016, we added a mini-split heating and cooling system and began using the carriage house immediately as a home theatre.

The renovation consisted of adding electrical plugs and lighting, and a built in 9 speaker surround system with Sonos speakers.   We added a new tongue and groove stained wood ceiling with 9 inch crown moulding, and a synthetic wood grain floor,   We installed a large antique light fixture from California.   James and Kevin spent several days painting the interior with 2 coats of paint only to decide that we didn’t like the color, so we repainted the interior with two more coats of a different color!   After adding a rug, window treatments and some finishing touches we completed the Carriage House Cinema at the end of March 2017.
